Maths Week beginning 22nd February 2021

Friday

Try to have a pencil/pen and piece of paper for this lesson!

Thursday

Now we will be moving on to telling the time the half past the house using an analogue clock. There may also be some o'clock times that you learned yesterday thrown into the questions too!

Wednesday

Today we will introduce telling the time to the hour using an analogue clock. They will learn the language of o’clock and understand that the hour hand is the shorter hand, and the minute hand is the longer hand. Children read the time to the hour and know when the minute hand is pointing upwards to the number 12 it is an o’clock time, and understand that they need to look at the hour hand to see which hour it is.

Tuesday

Today we are going to be learning about the days of the week. We are going to talk about events using today, yesterday, and tomorrow. Children will learn about the months of the year and should be able to pick out special dates within the year, for example their birthday.

I have included a worksheet below and challenge cards.

Monday

Over the next two weeks we will be looking at time. For both year 1 and year 2 this is new learning. Lesson 1 we will be looking at ‘before and after’. Children will be introduced to key vocabulary related to time. They use before and after to describe sort and order events. Building on this, they use first and next to describe and order of events. When talking about the day, children use the language morning, afternoon and evening.

Below you will find a worksheet for todays lesson along with some challenge questions.

Place value charts

Monday

It is important that children understand tens and ones.  We are going to focus on place value charts in today’s lesson.  Use your resources from last week to help you.

Y1 children were working on numbers to 20 before Christmas.  Ensure your child is confident with numbers to 20.  Can they identify the tens and ones in any number? Can they say it? Eg 14 is 1 ten and 4 ones.  Can they show you with equipment? Can they write the number in digits?

Tasks

*Practical- Use a place value chart to represent all numbers to 20. Make sure they are able to say each number, eg 7 has no tens and 7 ones.  16 is made up of 1 ten and 6 ones.

** Choose numbers 11-20.  Represent the numbers practically and then record the numbers in a place value chart.

***Children who are confident with numbers to 20 and are working with numbers to 50 can watch the video link from White Rose.  Represent numbers to 50 using a place value chart.  There is a worksheet from White Rose if you want to have a go.

Aut2.3.2 - Using a place value chart on Vimeo

Tuesday

Comparing groups of objects.

Warm up. Count forwards 0-20. Find one more/one less than a number.

Watch the White Rose video on comparing objects. Aut1.12.1 - Compare groups of objects on Vimeo

Complete the attached sheet linked to the video.

Challenge- complete the greater than > less than < worksheet.  Find groups of 10 within the objects to make it easier to count and compare.  Say your sentence eg 8 is less than 12.

Wednesday

Comparing numbers.  If children still need to represent the number practically or record with pictures that is ok.  Encourage your child to find the numbers on a number line/100 sq to help reinforce greater than/less than.

Use the signs < > = to compare numbers.

Tasks

Watch the video and complete the sheet linked to the video. Aut1.12.2 - Compare numbers on Vimeo

Challenge- Diving into mastery questions.

Thursday

To order objects and numbers

  1. Watch the white rose video clip
  2. Complete the worksheet attached

Maths

Monday 1st February 2021

We are revisiting place value over the next couple of weeks. To aid learning we use lots of different practical equipment at school. Today's task is to make the practical equipment that we will be using over the coming weeks. Please find pictures below to help with ideas.

Please can you make:

  • Tens and ones
  • Bundles of 10 straws or block of ten Lego bricks
  • Tens frame
  • Part whole model
  • Number line

Tuesday 2nd February 2021

To count read and write numbers

  • Make sure you are confident counting forwards and backwards (Year 1 to 20, Year 2 to 100)

*To count to 20 (year 1) or 100 (year 2) and practically show an amount e.g. 5 = 5 blocks

** To count to 20 (year 1) or 100 (year 2) and practically show an amount in a variety of different ways e.g. 5 blocks, 5 counters on a tens frame.

*** To count to 20 (year 1) or 100 (year 2) and practically show an amount in a variety of different ways and write numerals in words.

**** To count to 20 (year 1) or 100 (year 2) and practically show an amount in a variety of different ways, write numerals in words, and solve problems.

Wednesday 3rd February 2021

To represent numbers

Year 1 – representing number to 20

Year 2 – representing numbers to 100

We are going to learn how to represent numbers using:

  • Tens frame
  • Numicon
  • Tens and ones
  • Straw/lego
  • Words

*To represent a number using counters e.g. show me 6

** To represent numbers using counter and a tens frame

***To represent numbers 3 different ways.

****To represent numbers 4 or more different ways

Below is an example

Can you do the same for the numbers: 12, 4, 9  and 10.

Thursday 4th February 2021

To understand tens and ones and represent this on the part whole model.

Year 1 - Numbers to 20
Year 2 - Numbers to 100

Today you will need your tens and ones and your part whole model.

Ask your adult to choose a suitable number for you and...

*Say how many tens and how many ones are in your number.
** Use your tens and ones to make your number.
*** Use your tens and ones to make your number and then move this over to your part whole model.
****Use your tens and ones to make your number. Move this over to your part whole model and write an addition number sentence e.g. 24 = 20+4

An example is shown below.

Friday 5th February

Year 1 - Numbers to 20
Year 2 - Numbers to 100

* Fill in the missing 'whole' of the part whole model.
** Fill in the missing 'whole' of the part whole model and write a number sentence for it.
*** Fill in the missing numbers of the part whole models.
**** Fill in the missing numbers of the part whole models and write a number sentence for it.

I have included a blank version in case you want to do some of your own. Please download from below as it would not upload in the normal way. Once downloaded, if the objects are all in the wrong place then you need to click on the 'enable editing' button. If this does not fix it then please message Mrs Fowler on ClassDojo with your email address and I will try to send it to you that way :)
