Today we are counting coins. Again it might help if you have the coins to hand but don't worry if you do not.

Wednesday 31st March 2021

Today we are going to  be recognising coins. If you have any coins at home this might help with your learning. We are going to be looking at the 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2 coins. Don't t worry if you do not have all the coins.

Maths week beginning 29th March 2021

Maths week beginning 1st March 2021

There are no live lessons this week.  We are still available for you to contact via dojo if you need any help.  Please continue to upload your child's work to the portfolio section on class dojo.

Time

Monday- comparing time

Use the pages from the White Rose planning to help you page 13-14. The focus is on comparing tasks/events and using language eg faster, slower, earlier and later. (We've done 'er' words in English!) .

Go through the varied fluency section with your child and get them to answer to questions. These are what we would use at the start of a lesson, so this can be your introduction and warm up task.

Task - complete the diving into mastery sheet(s).

Challenge- try the reasoning and problem solving activities from the White Rose page 14.

 Tuesday

Comparing time

(Apologies for the late upload!) Keep it practical today.

Find 5 activities/tasks that you and someone else can do at home. eg 10 star jumps, run up and down the stairs, make a tower with 10 blocks.

Time yourself doing the activity.  (Use s stopwatch on your phone/watch) Time the other person doing the activity.  Compare your times,  Discuss who was faster/slower.  Which task was the quickest/slowest and why?

Challenge- Link to Science and make it a fair test- do the same task three times and get an average. Then compare your results. Record your results in a table.

Wednesday

We are going to continue telling the time using a clock the rest of this week.

If your child is working on o'clock and half past times that is fine.  You can access the work on the year 1 home learning page.

If your child is ready to move onto quarter past then use this work.

Watch the PowerPoint to help you.  Focus on the quarter past today and use it for quarter to tomorrow.

Draw a clock and split it into quarters (4 equal parts) to show your child quarters and what it means.

Task- complete the attached sheet.  If you don't have a printer you don't have to write it all out.  Go through the sheet with your child and they can just write their answers and then you can put a note on portfolio about how well they did.

Thursday

Today we are looking at number bonds to 20.

Please find below a worksheet and challenge cards.

Friday

Maths Week beginning 22nd February 2021

Friday

Try to have a pencil/pen and piece of paper for this lesson!

Thursday

Now we will be moving on to telling the time to half past the hour using an analogue clock. There may also be some o'clock times that you learned yesterday thrown into the questions too!

Practice telling the time on the clock https://www.visnos.com/demos/clock

Wednesday

Today we will introduce telling the time to the hour using an analogue clock. They will learn the language of o’clock and understand that the hour hand is the shorter hand, and the minute hand is the longer hand. Children read the time to the hour and know when the minute hand is pointing upwards to the number 12 it is an o’clock time, and understand that they need to look at the hour hand to see which hour it is.

Practice telling the time on the clock https://www.visnos.com/demos/clock

Tuesday

Today we are going to be learning about the days of the week. We are going to talk about events using today, yesterday, and tomorrow. Children will learn about the months of the year and should be able to pick out special dates within the year, for example their birthday.

I have included a worksheet below and challenge cards.

Monday

Over the next two weeks we will be looking at time. For both year 1 and year 2 this is new learning. Lesson 1 we will be looking at ‘before and after’. Children will be introduced to key vocabulary related to time. They use before and after to describe sort and order events. Building on this, they use first and next to describe and order of events. When talking about the day, children use the language morning, afternoon and evening.

Below you will find a worksheet for todays lesson along with some challenge questions.

Place value charts

Monday

It is important that children understand tens and ones.  We are going to focus on place value charts in today’s lesson.  Use your resources from last week to help you.

Y2 children were working on numbers to 50 and 100 in Autumn term.  Ensure your child is confident with numbers to 100.  Can they identify the tens and ones in any number? Can they say it? Eg 54 is 5 tens and 4 ones.  Can they show you with equipment? Can they write the number in digits?  Practice counting in 10's to help counting bundles of 10.

Tasks

Watch the video link from White Rose.  Represent numbers to 50 using a place value chart.  There is a worksheet from White Rose if you want to have a go.

Aut2.3.2 - Using a place value chart on Vimeo

Challenge- have a go at the place value detective challenge cards! (Answers are on the last page!)
