Re enact the story using the stick puppets…
Do this by cutting out the pictures stick them on card-( an old cereal box or similar will do). Make a v shape with a strip of card and glue it to the back of the picture so it can stand freely. Or use straws or sticks.

Shuffle a set of 1-10 cards. Take one, e.g. 5 and ask a child to use this number of cubes to build a tower. How tall will it be if I add 2 more cubes? Can they show the first number with fingers and count on, saying 6, 7, holding up 2 more fingers. Write 5 + 2 = 7 and read it together. Add 2 cubes to the tower to check the total. Repeat with different cards.

Separate them into 2 groups – count the objects in each group and write the number down.
Identify that each group added together is 10.
Repeat until you have covered all number bonds to 10.
Number sentences should look like 2+8=10

1) Draw around your hands and cut them out.
2) Stick the palms of your hands onto the paper.
3) Bend 4 fingers down – ask children to count how many are still up. Identify 4+6=10
4) Continue with all number bonds to 10 (numbers that add up to 10).

Write 5 + 0 = 5, 4 + 1 = 5… 0 + 5 = 5. Cover one of the 1st number in each sum. Children use fingers to work out which number is hidden. Reveal to check.
Work with adult. Ask to show you 10 fingers altogether, so for example one child might show 6 and the other might show 4.
Now ask them to do this in a different way. Repeat.

Pairs of numbers to make 5
Work in pairs. Ask each pair to show you 5 fingers altogether, so for example one child might show 4 and the other show 1. Now ask them to do this in a different way. Eg 3 and 2 repeat a few times
Pairs of numbers to make 10
Show 10 pegs on a coat hanger. (or ten strips of paper on a coat hanger) Partition into 9 and 1. Turn the coat hanger round to show that 9 and 1 makes 10 and so does 1 and 9. Repeat for 8 and 2, 7 and 3, 6 and 4, then 5 and 5.
Ask child to close their eyes whilst you hide 3 pegs with a cloth. When they open their eyes. Show me 10 fingers. Now show me how many pegs you can see on the coat hanger. How many fingers are folded down?
That's how many are hiding!
Record 7 + â–¡ = 10. Agree 3 goes in the box. Remove cloth to check. Repeat hiding other no.’s of pegs.

Then carry on counting until you say stop.
Repeat with other cards.
Show 4 soft toys, then hide them under a blanket. One more toy is going to go and hide under the blanket. How many will be under the blanket then? Can they show the answer on their fingers. Slide the extra toy under blanket. Record 4 + 1 = 5. Read it together. Then reveal the toys to check. Repeat with different numbers of toys up to 10 under the blanket, always adding 1.

Make a square, rectangle, circle and triangle out of old cardboard
Place that shape (square, rectangle, circle or triangle) in a bag and ask a child to put their hand in the bag and describe the shape they can find in the bag (don’t take it out) describe the shape to you. Your child might use words such as ‘pointy’ or ‘round’. Do not discourage this language but you can help by using words such as corners, straight or curved. I wonder what it might be. Do you think it might be a circle? Why not? Draw what you think it might look like

When reading the story, Sharing a shell encourage children to listen to the rhyming words.

Story Time!
Wednesday 13th January:

Maths:
Today, you will need your number cards (1-20) from your packs.
Put the cards into the correct order and then point to each number as you count out loud.

Junk modelling of animals seen on your walk.
Use objects you can find around your home to represent animals, birds and insects that you’ve seen.

Today I want you to use your number cards from your pack (1 to 10). Shuffle them up and put them in the right order.

Topic:
After you have been on your walk, talk to someone at home and tell them all about the things you saw while in the park. You could even go again today (the weather is supposed to be lovely today!)
You should use words that describe where you saw each animal. Make sure to use full sentences! "I saw the bird on the tree."
I'd love to see pictures on dojos of the things you've spotted!

Counting back from 10 - use teddies/toys in a box (you could even make a pretend bus!).
Count them in and out backwards.

Go on a walk to the park or woods, if possible, and draw/write what animals/birds/insects you can see.
If you can. either use a book or go online and see what you can find out about the animals you saw on your walk.
